A Long Island man is facing two felony charges for an alleged murder-for-hire plot that included burner phones, a promise of land in India, and a clandestine drive-by of the victim's home.
Navdeep Singh, a 48-year-old from Dix Hills, spent a week communicating with a "hired assassin," according to court documents, as part of an effort to kidnap and eventually murder someone else in the county.
"He conspired with a would-be hitman to put a deranged plan into action," said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.

As part of the disturbing deal, prosecutors alleged Singh wanted to hire a contract killer for a payment of $100,000 and ten acres of land in India.
Talk quickly turned to action when officials believe Singh met with the "assassin" on June 5. That's when he turned over four burner cellphones in an effort to stay under the radar and $7,000, the court documents reveal.

On the same day, the man allegedly provided photos of the victim's home in Nassau County and of the person's car. The alleged target was a construction business rival who had sued Singh for millions of dollars, prosecutors said.
"Singh allegedly wanted the man kidnapped, taken out of state," said Donnelly. "He wanted him dismembered, he wanted a picture of the man’s head and another of his body."

The plan unraveled when the alleged hitman called police. On Saturday, authorities said the 48-year-old man met up with the "assassin" to drive past the intended victim's home. They met at a Manhasset parking lot, where police arrested him.
Singh was charged with conspiracy and criminal solicitation. He was arraigned Sunday and ordered held on $2 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
